"There are more sure marks of authenticity in the Bible than in any profane history." Sir Isaac Newton
A thorough knowledge of the BIBLE is worth more than a college education.Theodore Roosevelt
"It is necessary for the wellfare of the nation that men's lives be based on the principles of the BIBLE. No man, educated or uneducated, can afford to be ignorant of the BIBLE."
Theodore Roosevelt
"That book, sir, is the rock on which our republic rests." Andrew Jackson
There's no better book with which to defend the BIBLE than the BIBLE itself.Dwight L. Moody
Some people like to read so many chapters every day. I would not dissuade them from the practice, but I would rather lay my soul asoak in half a dozen verses all day than rinse my hand in several chapters. Oh, to be bathed in a text of Scripture, and to let it be sucked up in your very soul, till it saturates your heart! --Charles Haddon Spurgeon
"I am sorry for men who do not read the Bible every day. I wonder why they deprive themselves of the strength and pleasure."
Woodrow Wilson
Tips for reading the Bible
Pray first before opening God's word. Ask for guidance to be able to understand, accept what is written and to be able to apply His will to your life.
Never, the Bible trying to prove your belief on any subject. It is only human nature to take ideas out of context. Don’t make the Bible say what you want it to say.
When you are reading and come across something that does not make sense, reread the paragraph or chapter again. If you still do not understand, write down the verses that trouble you and continue reading. You may discover the answers later in your reading.
Don’t read too small or too large amounts of the Bible in one setting. Take breaks often. Be as alert and refreshed as you can when reading the Bible.
Start with the New Testament, people who start with the Old Testament almost never read the Bible all the way through.
Forget everything you have ever heard about Jesus, God and the Bible before you started reading the Bible. Don't take what you want it to say with you let it speak to you.
I suggest starting with the New Testament in the following order
·Read John first. It contains more about the life of Jesus and tells clearly our need for a savior and how Jesus saves us.
·Mark is in chronological order
·Matthew better detail of some events and adds more about Jesus.
·Luke and Acts were written by Luke who traveled with Paul. Acts is a continuation of Luke.
·Galatians gives a clearer explanation of the Christian’s relationship to the Old Testament laws than Romans and Hebrews.
·Romans to Revelations.
Keep in mind that the original Christian readers of Revelation, many of whom had come out of a Jewish religious background, would have recognized the language, thought content and symbols. They would have understood it and interpreted it differently than many Christians have since then. John's original readers knew how to understand it, but we have more difficulty with it because we aren’t familiar with the genre John used. We also aren’t as familiar with the Old Testament as the first readers would have been and much of Revelation directs the reader back to the Old Testament.
